Hi, I'm sort of new and completely fascinated with all the lovely cakes and talent here. Just starting decorating as a new hobbie and can't decide which kind of project I want to do. I have a bunch of different cake storage stuff I've collected - like the Rubbermaid 7" tall round cake keeper, the Nordic Ware 9x13" plastic domed keeper (locking bit broke after 1 use), Tupperware rectangle cake keeper, blue Farberware 6"? high cake & pie double stacking totes, plus other plastic keepers for undecorated rounds - but really want something taller for stacked cakes but not really wide. (Now you know why my nickname is "cakebox" lol.) Something about 10 - 12 inches high and 10 - 15 inches long, 12 wide would keep me happy at least for a while. I might end up making one out of acrylic sheets from the hardware store if I can't find something soon. Any ideas? Something I also want to check out would be the cardboard file holder boxes from Office Depot since the lid is separate and it looked like you could take apart the box on the short ends without disturbing the cake inside. Not totally sure about that though, don't know if it would be sturdy enough. What are your favorite cake keepers/totes and how tall are they?

I saw some new cool bags in my grocery store recently; they started carrying XL and XXL Ziploc bags which will fit some large cardboard cake boxes I hope. The XL is 2ft wide x 19" (inside the zip) or 60 cm x 48cm and the XXL is 2 ft wide x 32" (inside) or 60 cm x 80 cm. I do lots of regular cookies for neighborhood gatherings and made 20 dozen for the 4th of July and these bags would have come in handy.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Happy birthday.gif baking!
Cheers,
~cakebox

Welcome to CC! It is nice to know we will have a cakebox expert on here now. I saw those new ziploc bags at the store. They look like they would be really handy. I use moving boxes or my daughter makes a box for me! She uses foam board and they look really nice! Good luck with your baking!

Welcome! We are a support group for each other as we are all addicts, however we are not a support group to stop our addiction. We're more of a support group to encourage the addiction. hehe icon_lol.gif

I have decided for myself for the larger cakes I am looking at the rubbermaid plastic containers with lids. They have all different sizes, handles and removable lids. I bought a small one recently and I just put some of the non-slip shelf liner on the bottom. Then I put in my cake stand with cake and I was off. It was great. I made sure to get it a little larger than my cake stand so I could reach in easily and take out the cake.

I sent it with my customer and she loved it. She said it was really easy to transport and she felt better with it in a sturdy container than in a box (expecially with kids traveling with her)

The only suggestion I have on this thought is make sure when you are looking at these containers that they have a pretty flat bottom and no ridges. I almost bought one with ridges all the way around it and that would not have been a pretty site.

I will try to take a picture this week so you can see what I found.

Good luck

Leily

Thanks for the welcome and info, fellow/sister cake enablers! I have learned so much already and have so many things I want to try that I can't fall asleep without trying to work out a cake idea. My ideal/fantasy cake box would be acrylic - kind of like the one at sweet celebrations only a bit taller and a better handle than the ball on top. Can you tell I'm obsessed? I also like the clear separators available in the UK, but no luck here so far. Happy baking everyone icon_wink.gif.

I use a plastic storage bin turned upside down when I have a bigger cake to deliver. (Set the cake on the lid of the bin, use the 'bottom' as the cover.)

Welcome to the fun, we're glad to have you with us!

I agree the rubbermaid clear container are perfect they are study....last longer....and are cheaper... and with the lining I havent had one budge at ALL!!

I found one perfect for a 12x18 pan at walmart for $3.50 a steal compared to the 2.00 I payed at micheals for one cardboard flimsy box. ( was on a time crucnh and the bake shop was closed.

since I bought the rubbermaids I havent had to buy any cake boxes.....I usually deliver my cakes so I just make sure to bring back with me.....

Walmart also has some large 8x11 sticker sheets in clear and I used these to make a logo/label with my name and number and placed on the out side of the box!
