Hi,

I am going to be doing the cake for my son's wedding in June. Already I'm getting nervous, as I think ahead to the big day! I'm relatively new to cake-decorating. It will be my first, and maybe my only, wedding cake. My son's fiance has chosen a very pretty cake from one of the Wilton books and it looks fairly easy. But it sits on a Tall Tier Cake Stand.

My question to one of you who has used this particular cake stand, is: how easy is it to cut the cake, when using that cake stand? It looks like it would be a challenge getting to each layer. If it's going to be a problem, then maybe I could get her to switch to another cake. icon_smile.gif

I just thought I'd ask. You all are so helpful!

Linda

Do you have the picture of the cake? Or what yearbook and what page?

I haven't ever used that stand, so I can't help you there... I just wanted to say that I'm sure you'll do a great job, and we're all here for you to help in any way we can! There are so many talented people on here to give advice, etc... don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!

Most of the time, the bride and groom cut one pc out and walk away - the then cake cutter disassembles the cake to cut it. It shouldn't be a problem.

IMO, the taller the cake, the more impressive!

I just bought that cake stand today and the store owner where I bought it said to put the cakes on card board before you put them on the stand plates. You will need to cut holes in the cardboard and your cakes. I also bought the cake "thing" that cuts the holes in the cake.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I had just been wondering about how easy it would be to cut this particular type of wedding cake, since the stand goes through the center of each tier and seems to be bolted to the tiers. It would seem a little awkward but what do I know?! Probably the cake cutter (in this case, it will be the caterers) will know what to do. I just have to make it and get it to the church in time. icon_smile.gif Also I can make a practice version of some sort, and figure it out between now and June.

You all are so helpful! I love reading through the posts here.

That stand is really nice-you do take it apart when serving. I am sure the caterer will know about it but I would be sure to discuss it with them ahead of time-you can even show them the stand to make sure they have used it before and will know how to disassemble it when the time comes. Be careful to not cut your hands when cutting the hole in the cardboard circles-you will have to line it up perfectly to the plates and mark it-the cake will be easy to "unplug" and then your center fits right through. While it might be costly-get some cake dummies and practice or at least set one up to see it-then you won't be so "afraid" of that part. Or use a couple cake dummies and some real cakes to practice on. Everyone will enjoy eating it and it will give you some experience!
