I am making a fall birthday cake for a family member this weekend. I'd like to do a basketweave around a two- layer round cake. Does anyone have any tips (or better yet, a link with step by step instructions?)
Thanks!

I've done quite a few basket weave cakes. Here's a few tip i've learned through my mistakes:

It is a time consuming style, don't rush through it

Ice the cake underneath the same color as the basketwave

Don't let your hand warm the icing. It will fade.

Start at the back, and save any top decorations for last.

If you mess up just wait until it dries alittle and peel it off.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

When you are doing the basketweave, start at the bottom of the cake with each row, much easier that way. Be sure to mark off the cake into sections wtih small bits of icing to make sure the columns are even. Practice on a plate or practice board first! Good luck!
