I have been asked to do a tree stump cake and incoporate fly fishing. This is a groom's cake and the groom likes to fly fish. I thought about putting a fishing pole hanging off of the cake with a fish on the end of the line. I'm not sure exactly what a pole looks like for fly fishing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Angela

My husband is an avid fly fisherman! The poles are pretty long...like 7-9 feet, and they look like this photo.

The "flies" are feathery little things on hooks that look like moths & bugs. I did a cake with a "fly" and I used an un-bent paperclip with little yellow feathers on it, tied with red thread. It was pretty accurate...but not sharp and dangerous!

Maybe you could make a tree stump with a fly rod sitting next to it (on the cake board) and then a fishing creel, fishing hat, fish, beer. . . . whatever sitting on top of the tree stump.

Thanks: antonia74

Do you have a pic of the fly that you made? I looked at your photos and your website, but could not find anything. What should I make the pole out of?

Thanks,
Angela

They want the bride and groom's initial on the top of tree stump. I like the idea of the fishing hat and beer. I'll have to ask if the beer would be okay.

If you don't care that it's edible or not...make it out of a wooden chopstick! You can even "stain" it with cocoa and a bit of hot water.

The fly is hanging out of the mouth of my Trout in the Photos section. I'm not sure how clearly you can see it...it's my fish cake with the banners that read "Happy Birthday You Old Trout". I'll try to photo a close-up if you still can't see it?

HI

Just looking around the site and came across your topic....Do the bride and grooms names have to be on top of the tree stump? I thought it would be cute to maybe do their initials inside of a heart somewhere on the tree....like it was carved into the tree.......how romantic icon_rolleyes.gif lol
just an idea.....hope you don't mind the suggestion....

That is so funny. After I talked them about this cake last night. they said something about their initials being on the side of the cake in a heart.
