Can anyone tell me what the name is of the mats/pads used for working with fondant? (not the Wilton one's) "cel -something" ? I've checked online pretty much all day and have had no luck.
A friend of mine went to the Orlando convention and brought one back. It's a pretty good size mat for rolling out your fondant.
Thanks!

Could it be SilPat? I know these are not especially made to roll fondant but it is what I use.

Don't know what they are called, but I use clear vinyl that I bought from Rag shop. Could it be Cel-board?

I like the Roulpat Mat, same as a Silpat mat but much larger. More expensive of course but they last for years. This is the best price I have seen on them. Other places they sell for up to $49.00

I noticed after submitting this that it is smaller than mine. Mine is 31"X23" and I think I paid about $40.00 for it several years ago, and I don't recall what company I ordered from.

I found one - Roul 'Pat 31.5 x 23 - for $38.60 at JB Prince.

Is that a decent size? They have the 25 x 16.5" one for $29.50.

I got the ateco fondant work mat and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I found it a little cheaper (than from ateco and other places) by searching around a little. I got it from some discount place. Sorry i cant remember the name. But it was like 30 or something. I love it.

not only doesn't it move, you actually have to peel ot off the work surfacewhen youare done. I have granite countertops, so putting this mat on the top (which is exactly the right size for countertops, btw), I get the benefit of the the coolness of the stone as well as the non-stick properties of the silicone. I just smear on a tiny bit of crisco before working the fondant.

I noticed the large cutting mats in the sewing section of walmart yesterday. Has anyone ever tried those? I only have the small wilton mat and need something larger.

Here is the ateco one that I ordered. A pretty good price I think. It is pretty large 24x36 I believe. I really love it if I didnt say that 5 times in my last post icon_biggrin.gif

I cannot remember who it was, but it was on a recent FN Challenge that I saw one of the chefs using the plastic cutting mat that WalMart sells in the sewing section. They are a self-healing, hard plastic, which is used with the fabric cutting wheels. They sell bigger ones at Joann, where I got mine with a 50% off coupon. I use mine for fabric, but I am considering getting one for cutting fondant inlays.

You can also use regular vynil from walmart ($3 a yard) to roll the fondant and to make it stay put on the counter top just spray the tops with water then place the vynil and it will not move, just like the ateco one but for $3, just an idea... I own both (ateco and vynil) and to tell you the truth I like them the same, both work great. HTH

Does anyone know what is the difference between the Ateco silicone work mat and the Ateco Fondant work mat? Are they both the same thing except for the ruler markings?

tm that's what i use
the purple cutting mat
it's about 3'x3' and it works great especially if you use the backside as it's quite smooth and then when I am done, I hang it on the wall.
