Oct. 11th is my son's birthday, he lives in Florida. I would love to make and send him a cake, but have no idea whether or not it could be done in such a way that it would arrive in decent condition.

I've never shipped a cake. I'm just going to toss out a couple of ideas...

~pound cake or bundt cake
~ cake with frosting on-the-side (in a container)
~sheet cake left in pan, decorated with fondant

There's a new shipping material made of little clear plastic "pillows" pre-filled with air. These may even get an elaborate cake to him in one piece. Maybe, consider placing a pic of the cake in a ziploc bag and ship it with the cake. At least he'd know what it looked like when it left Texas.

Freeze it with dry ice and ship. there are many companies that do that.

ups and fedex do that but it cost extra . give them a call and see

I made a cake a few years back for a guy who shipped it by FedEx to his brother in Denver from Iowa. His brother said it made it in perfect condition. My mother used to make angel food cakes to my great aunt in a nursing home and she put popped popcorn all around the cake to "cushion" it and I guess that work pretty good too! Just some suggestions!!

I have sent cakes that I baked in a 9 x 13..the kind that comes with the plastic snap on lids. Mailed it USPS Priority from VA to FL and it arrived in perfect condition. Don't know if it was just good luck or lots of packing material!! HTH!
