My daughter wants me to make her wedding cake. And since I'm a relative newcomer to the cake world, I'm more than a bit nervous. We had a sort of unusual idea--she likes the idea of a square "present" stack for the main wedding cake but would like a traditional round top. All the pictures I 've seen are either all square or all round. Will our idea look okay or is it a bit over the top???
let me know what you think.
Thanks!
My own wedding cake was a stack of square presents all different colors(off set from one another) and the top was a traditional white round. I got tons of compliments! If at the end, you didn't like how the round topper looked, you could just take it off and repair the icing on the top. have fun- post pics
You all are too kind! Okay I feel better about our idea....now let's just hope I can pull it off!
I really like that idea! I think the square/round mixture looks good. I have always wanted to do a wedding cake like that, but no one has ever asked for that combination.

I have seen a wedding cake with a square bottom and 2 rounds on top of that to make a 3 layer cake. I think doing squares presents and a traditional round top would look wonderful.
Go for it!
It will look great! I've attached a link to a birthday cake I made with different shaped tiers.

I love cakes with different shapes. For my final Wilton wedding cake, I did a round cake, oval middle, with a dome on top from the sports ball. It was lots of fun!
