I just made a batch of MMF for my daughters first birthday elmo cake and loved it!!! A lot better than the boxed stuff, but how do you store it and how long will it last? The party is next weekend and not sure on how to keep it until the cake is ready. Any suggestions?

I put mine in a ziploc bag and squeeze all the air out. I leave it in the cabinet or pantry until I need it. If it is too hard I just microwave it for a few seconds until it is soft. I have kept it for 2 weeks before with no problems.

Berta, do you have a problem w/ the MMF sticking to the plastic bag when you are ready to use it?? I once wrapped MMF in plastic wrap & it was horrific trying to separate it from the plastic when I went to use it?? Was mine maybe too sticky or too warm? I would like to try it again, but I wasnt sure if I should pre-treat the plastic w/ crisco or non-stick spray or something? Or was it just ME??? icon_smile.gif Thanks....

I rub a little shortening on the entire ball of fondant before I slip it in. It hasn't ever stuck on me....knock on wood!

Thanks, I wrapped it in sarahwrap and placed on conter. When I put the shapes on the cake can I brush them with water or oil to make them shine a little better? I really want this cake to come out excellent. Too many people are going to be there... The pressure is on!
