It came out SO ugly!
My SIL came to me for her daughter's cake. She wanted a Cinderella character cake with a castle on the side. I've seen so many lovely castle cakes here and I've always thought, "If they can do it, I can do it, too!"
My 17 yr old daughter made the towers for me - 3 of them. Well, the cake was small, 7" & 5". I put the longest tower in the small cake and immediately a chunk fell off when the tower fell back!
I don't even know how to describe it all! My wall texture isn't how I pictured it would be, either. Anyway, when I went to set up the cake, there were some early guests. (There wasn't supposed to be anyone!)They came rushing over to watch me! I still had the medium tower and the small one. It was raining A LOT and the BC came off the hole I had covered. In went the medium tower, down it went. Less cake and frosting now. Serious faces on the supervisors."Hmmm..." they said. Castle cake with only one small tower. Lopsided.
My SIL came to look at the cake and said nothing.
My face still gets hot every time I think about it. Now it's a challenge for me.

Oh Marie, I'm so sorry this happened to you!
Glad you haven't given up, though
Just posted these castle cake instructions - maybe they will help:

Good luck !!!
I am sooooo sorry! I know how you feel. Just last week my castle cake for my daughters 1st b-day fell apart. I was crying at night then in the morning. Its an awful feeling. My mom, dad, dh and bestfriend all watched me have a melt down! It has taken me this whole week to get back in the groove of wanting to make cakes again. I felt like I wasn't cut out for it. i realize now that a lot of it had to do with my daughter was screaming for me while my mom babysat so I was RUSHING big time. I just keep reminding myself that this is going to happen more than once so I guess I better get some thick skin and keep practicing!
Jan - Thank you very much. Those castles look like something I can manage! Of course, if someone else wants a castle cake, it had better be bigger than the one my SIL asked for!
Katy - I know. I read your post. It's a little hard to take, but I know we'll get over it!
Okie - The audience was the worst part! (How's the snow in your area?)
Marie

Lexy - Thanks for taking the time to look up some instructions for me! JanH also did this favor for me and I wonder why I didn't ask before.
This cake is certainly magical!
Thank you!
Marie
Thanks Lexy, I don't have a need for those instructions now but I'm saving them for someday. It looks pretty cool.
