Just Curious What kind of decorating bags do you like to use?

I use the parchment triangles... I like them because they are cheap and no clean up, but i sometimes have one that doesn't want to cooperate with me when i am shaping it into the cone.

I use the Wilton disposable bags. A little more pricey that parchment but SO easy and always just there to grab!

I use a combo of both disposable bags and parchment triangles, depending on how much icing I need. I would hate having to use a disposable bag for just a little icing, but I would also hate having to make more than one parchment bag for the same icing when I can just refill the disposable.

I have a few featherweight bags, but I rarely use them. I guess I'm just too lazy

I go to Sams and buy the "locking" sandwich bags...cut one corner off put my coupler in and viola!! Decorating bags.....I'm too cheap to buy the others...the bags work out to be much cheaper..I buy a case of them at a time...the top locks..no leaking..just make sure you get all the air out before locking.

I use all three - featherweight (my favorite), disposable & parchment. Mostly I use the featherweight for BC, disposable for royal, and parchment for small amounts of both - like a BCT.

I also reuse my disposables once or twice before tossing, unless I just don't feel like dealing with it, even if I use them for BC. Just flip them inside out, rinse with hot water, and clothespin to the dishwasher. Easy cleanup, works for featherweight bags too.

Also, I buy the 100ct disposables with my 40% or 50% coupon at Michael's, or the Hobby Lobby 1/2 price sale. Then they're only about $.10 each.

Featherweight bags for me! If using royal icing, I usually use the parchment bags..just easier!

Royal I use mostly disposables, BC I will use disp. or if I am going to be working for a long time with one bag I use featherweight. I only use parchment when I need just a tad of one color. Id say featherweight is my favorite, but I am the dishwasher so I dont use them as much as I would like!

ok what kind of sandwich bags do you get. I have heard of using these before but never knew which kind to use. Is one brand better than another. do you use the one with the zipper or the other kind

Amy, JoAnns doesn't sell cake decorating supplies. I wish they did because I always get coupons from them in e-mails.

My personal favorite is the disposable bags, and the main reason is because I can see through them. It makes it easy to know which color icing you're picking up. I also wash and reuse them. I find them very durable.

I have bought all types of bags. I prefer the disposable from wilton, but I use the parchment triangles for most litle jobs.

I have found that JoAnn's is the cheapest for the these. I know that the JoAnn's in Texas sells all kinds of stuff. I just bought the large cake leveler from them, it was on sale for $7.99.

Just FYI, JoAnn superstores DO sell cake decorating supplies. I'm a Wilton instructor at one here and they sell a large variety of Wilton products. The traditional JoAnn fabric stores, however, may only get a small seasonal display of cutters, sprinkles, etc.
You can probably go online to see if there is one near you.


I like the disposable bags because I don't have to clean them. I find that the parchment paper bags are too stiff and I have trouble getting all the icing out. I only use them when I need to color-stripe my bags.

I recently went to Jo-ann fabrics and found they had a nice selection of wilton products. They had a hugh amount of Icing colors and I was able to get the square pan cake set for 18.00 with a coupon. Alot of their wilton products are cheaper than Michaels or ACMoore. I go there now before trying the other 2 stores.

I use the disposable mostly too. But I have a few of the old cloth bags. I like them for the large tips I use for my borders. I don't have to refill them. Just toss in the laundry.

I use only the disposable bags I cant be bothered to wash out the bags.

disposable is the best one... no fuzz no mess no clean up..and you're sure it's clean since it's never been used before... perfect for big and small jobs...paper, why bother, they can break ...they're good for minor jobs, but they're not for commercial/industrial strength or jobs..

The two Joann's within my area didn't sell cake decorating supplies when I was there a couple years ago. So, now I never bother. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll have to check them out again.

you also might want to check out walmart. They do care some wilton products. I have checked both the regular walmart and the superstore. I have found they are cheaper than michaels and joanns. not much around .50-1.00 cheaper. I get my bags there and the colors. You will find them in the craft/sewing area.

TheVienneaus, don't feel bad. I heard so much about Joann's that I finally went to the one in my area, well guess what? No, cake decorating supplies at all. I was so disappointed. Although I can still purchase other things since I like doing crafts. I guess we'll have to purchase online if its cheaper but I haven't done that yet.

I mainly use parchment triangles so I have less to clean. But it can be a pain sometimes when putting on the coupler.
