I am at work, and I brought a cake in for a girl here. A pool table cake. When she picked it up the green on the pool table cracked. I tried fixing it. Viva Paper towel but its not working very well. I feel so bad. Anyyone got any helpful hints I could try to fix it?

Is for her at work are they sjust going to hack into it soon? or was it for her afterwork, like for a birthday or something?

Is it fondont or buttercream frosting?

If it was to eat at work, I wouldn't worry to much. I know it wasn't perfect, but they are just going to eat it any way.

If it was for an afterwork event, is there anyway for you to fix it and take it to her? I know we do not tend to take extra frosting with us however, I know that we tend to have extra where we bake.

Its for after work, Everyone keeps telling me that it doesn't look bad, But I always seem to find the flaws in my cakes! Its buttercream frosting. I thought maybe my hand would kinda warm it up and melt but I think I am going to leave it alone. I don't want to make it worse.

I don't really have any advice to help fix it, but it probably cracked from lack of support underneath. Try doubling up your cake boards or use covered foam board next time. Good luck and I'm sure it doens't look as bad as you think it does, looking at a cake you decorated is like looking at yourself in the mirror...you see everything that's wrong with it!

I understand I have never been fully pleased with any of my cakes, I think cake decorators are a bit OCD icon_razz.gif or at least perfectionist in our own way. If the person you made it for is happy. Then you did your job. I would try to let it go.

I used to have this problem with crusting buttercream when I used a base that was not firm enough. I tend to say leave it. If the top is very plain you could scrape it off and re-ice, but if you try to ice over it, it will not work well at all and you will have clumps of crusted BC mixed in with the fresh BC.

I'm sure it is not as bad to everyone else as it is to yoU!

agreed.

you may try taking a knife dipped in hot water, dry it off and gently smooth over the bc crack. allow it to crust a minute and smooth it with a viva towel or if not available a piece of parchment, wax or typing paper. GENTLE! thumbs_up.gif

definately use a sturdier board next time.

Just a quick thought , as this has happen to me before. Try dipping a smooth edged knife in hot water, dry the knife and let the heat from the knife smooth over the crack.
