I can't believe I did it. I was taking a cake to my mother-in-laws and as I was coming in the back door I tripped and dropped the whole thing on the floor face up. icon_cry.gif

I was so depressed and embarassed. Not very professional! At least it was for family and not a stranger. I did get a picture of it before I left the house. It is the Broncos cake in my photos. Has this ever happened to anyone else or am I the only clumsy one.

If it makes you feel any better I did the same thing for my husband's birthday cake. It was back in college though, some trillion years ago, but we had just become a couple and I really wanted to impress him and I wanted him to have a nice cake so I dropped it. Then, my roommate and I ate some of it off the floor. No use for it to go to waste, right and I was broke. Anyway, I had to eat it off the floor, otherwise I would have been in tears.

Disasters like this happen to everyone. I was even watching a demo by a professional cake instructor/decorator and as she was explaining how stable her stacked cake was going to be the top tier flopped right off onto the counter. She just laughed, picked it up, said 'oops!' and went right on.

This makes me think of the time I dropped Strawberry Shortcake on the floor! I was rushing to go to my daughter's field day and I was moving the cake out of the way. Well...it went right to the floor. The only good part was that I had not decorated her yet. I just had to rebake the cake when I got home. I would have been really upset if I had frosted it because that pan is a real pain! Don't feel bad...we all have those days!

I hadn't started decorating on these cakes when my mishap(s) occurred. Before I had hand surgery for carpal tunnel--I was taking a cake out of the oven and my hands went numb and I flipped the enitre cake upside down in my oven. That was a good smelling mess. Cleaned that up and started a second one--tipped the mixing bowl over before I poured it in the pan--batter all over me, the counter and the floor. Third try--took the cake out of the oven successfully, turned it out on my cake rack and was transferring rack to a table--hands went numb and dropped it in the floor. Guess what--scheduled an appointment the next day for CT surgery.

Ginger - that's so funny! I can just picture you on hands and knees with icing all over your face. Of course I don't know what you look like so the icing really helps with accuracy!

Mac - so sorry about the CT. I think after baking 3 times I would have given up! I guess you're all better now. Was it from decorating or typing?

Ali--
It was from typing--I worked in an office for 10 years with heavy typing. Just have 2 small incisions on my wrists less than 1/2" and only one middle finger is slightly numb but it is so wonderful to decorate and not have pain or a bag stuck in my hand b/c I couldn't open it. (Did have to be careful with that numb middle finger for awhile--it didn't want to bend and some people thought I wasn't being too nice--LOL!!!)

Mac-LOL is right! That's funny! And I thought you were going to bed, young lady. Now get off that computer and go to sleep!

Ali - guess I should listen to my own advice =)

I've dropped, fell into one, dog tripped me when I was coming down from a chair after taking a pic of a cake & I fell into the cake, I've had some slid off the boards, flip off the darn tilting turntable (it's no good by the way), etc, etc, etc!! LOL!!!!! I can never get finished with a cake without having some kind of disaster! So far the one I dropped on the floor was the only one I couldn't salvage!

OK, I had a good laugh here! This thread is hilarious! OK, I have had some mishaps but can say I haven't dropped one ( yet ) I have come so close that my heart skipped a beat, my dog has gotten under my feet so many times that I can't count them and I have had the cake in my hands with her tangled up in my feet to where I would have bet you 1000$ @ that moment , that me the cake and dog were going down. I know my turn is coming!

It was awful but I couldn't stop laughing.....My hubby warns me everytime I am near a wall with a cake in hand. icon_smile.gif
