I am doing a wedding next month. Bottom tier is 10" dummy with 8" on top of dummy, then separator plates with shortest pillars and 6" cake on top. The bride wants to use the "Elegance" cake topper by Wilton. It seems rather heavy. Of course I will dowel the 8" but do you think I need to dowel the 6".

Thanks for you help,
Pat

Hi, I always use dowel rods with a heavy cake topper. It can't hurt and its better to be safe than sorry! I think Wilton recommends dowel rods for the heavy toppers too. Good luck with your cake! Bonnie

If in doubt..dowel...the last thing you need is for the topper to sink into the top layer.

HINT:....I always give the caterer a list... equipment I want back..cake boards etc....and I tell them how many dowels are in each layer...when I first started the idiots left a dowel in and a guest got the darn thing in their piece of cake. They(the caterer) thought it was amusing....fools.

So I warn them...to cover my biscuits. icon_biggrin.gif
