This is a crazy week for me. I am doing my first wedding and groom's cake this weekend. On top of that I am doing a cake for a surprise shower for the bride (just a rose cake so thankfully that one is easy) AND a birthday cake for the son of an old friend of mine (a cake I would have declined to make if it hadn't been this person asking). The birthday cake will be MMF and she needs it on Saturday but wants to pick it up Thursday. I want to concentrate most of my time on the wedding cakes so I am wondering if tomorrow is too early to cover and decorate the birthday cake. Any thoughts or helpful ideas? Thanks!

decorate it wednesday for a thursday pickup that will be served saturday? ideally decorating it thursday is better but it should be ok if done on wednesday -- needs to be held correctly if it has hazardous fillings and that kind of thing --

i would do it thursday if it was me - doing a birthday cake in the midst of doing a wedding cake should not be a schedule buster -- and i realize it's your first wedding cake but honestly it might help break up the day for you so you have to zero in and not get lost in the right side of your brain-- and you got a little munchkin there to keep from concentrating too much too? :-D fingers crossed for you-- you got this-- one step at a time --

but you need to be prepared to tell your mother no if your schedule will not allow --  it should be ok if done on wednesday

best to you

Considering the person wants it on Thurs for Sat eating have you explained it won't be 'oh so fresh'?

I say do it as late on Wed as you can.  Maybe even freeze it and tell them to keep fzn until Fri evening OR if it's to be served Sat evening take it out in the a.m.

Thanks!  I am going to hold off at least until later in the day Wednesday.  I am usually not great about time management (and I have a 3 year old that helps with that) but with the wedding cake I am really trying to stay on top of everything and not have any late nights trying to get everything done.  I have done all my prep work and it is a simple cake but I always worry about the unexpected hiccups that can arise.  Thanks again for the helpful tips!
