AI really wanted to use melted sugar or candy for an upcoming cake, but I needed it in a specific shape & wasn't finding any tutorials to do that, so I tried an experiment. I traced the shape, put it on a metal baking sheet, then covered with parchment. I outlined the shape on the parchment on stiff buttercream & put it in the freezer. Then I melted the Jolly Ranchers with a touch of water in a small non-stick saucepot. When it was liquid enough to pour I took the sheet from the freezer, poured the candy, then popped it right back in the freezer for a few minutes. It worked!

I wipes away the buttercream with a paper towel. Some did melt to the edges of the candy, but I'll be putting this on a buttercream cake & probably outlining some of the pieces anyway, so it's ok. But I also tried running it under cold water briefly & was able to scrape away most of the rest of the buttercream. Just wanted to share in case anyone else needs a similar result.

If I can get a pic to upload I'll add that later.

AHmm. In just about every Unwrapped I've ever seen, that involved casting any kind of candy, the molds were made of corn starch. That might be helpful here. Or not.

The corn starch molds are only used with gummy/jelly candies.  The hard candies are rolled out when warm, twisted into a thin line and cut with a very fast machine.

Look forward to seeing your cake customcakesbysa.
