AI've been searching for the perfect yellow cake recipe and every one I've tried so far turned out tasting like cornbread! At first I thought I was just getting bad recipes, but 3 bad recipes in a row just doesn't seem likely, I have to be doing something wrong! Has this happened to anyone else?

would need to know the recipes you are using -- probably just the list of ingredients --

but i use the sylvia weinstock yellow cake recipe-- she has two -- i use the one with sour cream (not the one with milk) and i add an extra quarter cup of flour -- i delete two or three of the egg yolks and i do not whip the egg whites separately -- i just add the eggs to the creamed butter & sugar -- makes a great cake for me

white and yellow are the hardest to perfect - just keep going-- you'll get there --best baking to you

Here's a very interesting and informative thread with lots of recipes for you to try.  Sylvia Weinstocks recipe is also here, and I also like the sour cream one better.
