I'm working on plans for my son's first birthday. We're doing a sock monkey theme, for his actual birthday I'll be making an 8" cake, but for a pre-birthday party with the in laws I'm doing cupcakes. I came up with the idea of doing a 3D sock monkey cake pop (like these: http://www.mylittlecupcakeblog.com/2013/01/sock-monkey-cake-pop-party.html) and putting it on top of a coordinating cupcake.
I only found a very few examples of cake pops on top of cupcakes from my google search. Has anyone done this and had success? Or failure? I'd love some tips.
AMy concern was that the pops would be too heavy and would threaten to collapse the cupcakes.I'm going to try to use a cake pop maker (regular cake not cake/frosting mix) to make them less heavy.
I was also afraid they'd look too big, but i think they'll be ok.
