I am entering a bake-off at work and would love to wow the judges. I'm looking for some good flavor combinations that are maybe not ones you see every day. We need 30-40 small servings so I'm probably going to do mini cupcakes.

Also something I was contemplating doing was a malt flavored frosting, using a buttercream and adding something like an ovalteen to it...anyone done this or have any input?

Thanks!

AIf I were to use a powder for malt flavor, I would use Carnation malt powder instead of Ovaltine. Ovaltine touts all the added vitamins and minerals it has. To me, it gives it the unique flavor that it has that is instantly recognized, but it has the aftertaste of a multivitamin. Also, I enjoy crunching on the malt powder when I get a malted at the ice cream place, but I don't think I would like that crunch in a buttercream unless it was a decoration sprinkled on top. Maybe others would like it? I'd dissolve it somehow. Good luck in your bakeoff!

I won the Christmas office cupcake competition with Cranberry and Clementine.  I bought some orange soaked cranberries and put some orange juice and clementine juice and zest in the cake and the frosting.
