I have searched all over and haven't found anything about a crusting buttercream that I can add whiskey to. I am making my husband a JD cake for his birthday, and I really want to have a JD flavored crusting buttercream. I want it to be crusting because I want it to have that smooth, fondant look. I am new to decorating, and only made my first buttercream in November; (It was so good!) but upon further research I discovered in my hot, humid climate, it is best to go w/ a crusting buttercream instead of traditional in the summer to prevent melting (near, Nashville, TN). (plus I need crusting for the smooth, VIVA method, right?)
Is it as easy as adding a few shots to the traditional crusting buttercream recipe? On the threads I've been researching (a few years old) I have seen problems w/ the Criso and Great Value shortning not having trans-fats anymore- are there any updates or other brands to try?
Any assistance to this new baker is greatly appreciated!!!
If anyone cares to know- I tested a chocolate whiskey cake last weekend (I didn't make BC) and it didn't come out good at all :( I decided to go w/ a cake mix and make a simple syrup to brush the cake instead. I read that it is fabulous w/ French Vanilla- any other suggestions? (Don't judge!!! I'm not a great baker but I have found passion in decorating cakes for family occasions) : ) : ) : )
TIA!!!!!!!!!!!
