...and asked for items I do not make.  She was asking for a quote on cupcakes, cake balls, and cake. It was odd, since the only place to obtain my number for most folks is my site, which clearly lists what I offer. My niche is offering all natural cakes and baked goods made without preservatives, or artificial flavors or colors. I also avoid corn syrup and anything hydrogenated.  This does limit me in what I can provide but I am OK with that.  And I would happily quote her on cupcakes and a cake, but I do not offer cake balls as I feel that market is well cornered in my area.

Do you think it is common for folks to call looking for something without taking a moment to look through the site? Part of me wonders if she might be price shopping as a potential competitor.  But either way, I not only list exactly what I make, but I also list my pricing on everything except my tiered custom cake options. hmmmm......

There's a chance that she didn't read your website thoroughly enough to see that you don't make the cake pops & cupcakes etc. I'd just re-enforce with her that you specifically make all natural cakes and at this time don't offer the cake pops and cupcakes. If she says that you should be doing them, just thank her for her feedback and you'll take it into consideration in the future.

People ask me to make things I don't offer on my website all the time.  I think it's a combination of people not looking carefully and assuming that if you are a baker, it's not a big deal to make cake pops/mini cupcakes/filled cupcakes, etc etc.  I also get people asking what flavors I offer all the time, too.  Um, is it rude to just link to my menu page?  Honestly, I usually cut and past my menu in the email for them, but just another example of people not paying attention.  Sometimes it's a good thing though.  I explained a particular carved cake would be two layers of cake and one of filling and asked what flavors they would like.  They asked for one layer of chocolate cake and one layer of strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream in between.  It was a huge hit and I never would have thought I could offer a neopolitan flavored cake so easily!

Ah thank you for all the insight! Hmm, your right FrostedMoon, that does sound good.  I wish I could have spent more time with her, but as soon as she heard no cake balls she disconnected. Ah well :)

Had a call just last week or so, that went basically like this:

"Hi, I've been looking at your site for awhile now, and I just can't find any pictures of cake pops and cake balls, and no pricing information either. So how much will it be for a dozen of each?" :???:

I actually wrote "monkeys and apes ice my cakes" in the About section on my website and left it there for an entire week. Think anyone mentioned it? Nope. Sometimes I turn off that whole part and just have contact information.

I remember AZ mentioning monkey-iced cake to me, but I think she was talking about someone else's work. :-D

I believe it was attributed to the wild hare.

A[@]costumeczar[/@] can lay claim to the term monkey iced cake! ;) I'm sure I got my inspiration from her somehow. Anyway, it was to prove a point that people are generally visual creatures (opting to just look at pictures), and will avoid reading information when they can just ask and have it handed to them. Like what happens here a lot. Rather than go to Google, they'll ask others to do the work for them for really easy stuff.

Thanks, AZ.  I was ready to go to bed despondent and sad because of the USA tie with Portugal (in the LAST 20 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!), but you made me laugh.

I agree thanks AZ and Apti - at least you still have a chance I'm almost afraid to show my face in public. My friends can't stop crowing about France doing so well and England eliminated so quickly having lost both opening matches. Oh the shame:oops:
