I was wanting to see if anyone knew how to do this technique they used on this cake? Doesn't really look like a buttercream transfer, or drawn on with icing exactly.. It just looks too smooth for those techniques.. i could be wrong though. Help! :/
Picture is really small, but it looks like a combination of airbrushing, piping, and painting over crusting buttercream to me.
I think it might be a thinned buttercream background painting with edible images cut out and placed: barn, animals, truck, etc.
this can also be done with just straight buttercream-- crusting buttercream is easier -- but i could do it with smbc*-- y'know lay the background on--just swirl some brown onto the white -- draw the items with a hat pin -- color in with buttercream -- before it crusts pat the piping lines out with a smoothy smooth brand new or dedicated smooth weave kitchen towel/cloth -- a viva paper towel also works-- outline --
all totaled i've spent days of my life drawing all manner of pictures like this --
we used the fudgey smooth stretchy commercial ganache to outline with--black bc sucks to outline with --
* for smbc--you have to spatula off the piping lines -- and cut off the bit of excess icing with that hat pin, lift it off -- when you fridge it you can also smooth out anything else with the heat of your fingertips --
easy peasy
