AOk, I've had a bit of a headache this week. I made a spiderman topper in stages using fondant with gum tragacanth added. I added the gum at the same time as the colour and left the sections to dry in phases. I made him over the course of 2 weeks and he never really went hard. He felt quite "sweaty" to start off with actually.

What am I doing wrong? I've never managed to get the paste to go hard no matter how much tragacanth I add!

AMy understanding is you need to colour the paste, then add gum trag. Wrap tightly in cling film/Saran Wrap (whatever you call it) and then leave it to mature for 24 hours before using it.

AHmm, that's what I thought. I did do that because the fondant I used was red and I wanted to let it "develop" overnight. I thought that I maybe was supposed to put in the trag then colour it after it rested but I tried that before and it didn't particularly work...

AWhat brand of fondant did you use? Some will never harden into paste no matter how much trag or tylose you add.
