Hi everyone!

Well, we are in the finishing touches of heading out to the Bay Area. It's a combo weekend. We are actually headed out to the beach tomorrow for a combo of our oldest daughter's birthday, our youngest daughters anniversary and Father's Day!  Then on Sunday is a friends Baby's 1st Birthday for their daughter. Now, Anna already turned one but they live in Scotland now so we missed the "giraffe" themed party there. This party has a Luau theme (her dress is the color of the topper and has plumerias all over it) so we tied the two parties together for her USA party! Here's the cake!

I will take another one at the park with all of the decorations and everything. The topper has now been boxed up for safe travel and we'll be heading down soon! I'll log in at the other end and hope to see your creations!

OH! The cake is vanilla cake with caramel buttercream filling that has toffee bits in it! SO yummy of a filling I could have just sat down with the bowl and ate it all up! Every bit went into the cake instead to remove the temptation! LOL!

See you all later tonight!

AWell, my mom's birthday was Wednesday, and this is what I came up with (Pillsbury "Dark Chocolate" mix with DH "Classic Chocolate" canned frosting: Mom Birthday 2014.jpg by Tracker-Backer, on Flickr Still "family style (in-pan), but this time with a border, to dress the edges where the cakes met the pans (and the border between frosted and naked sections), piped with a Wilton #18 star-tip. Leaves (Wilton #67) were a bit sloppy, still, but (although not visible) now 5 per rose. Not really any room (or enough green frosting left) for stems. Once again, my kitchen cake (2/3 of a DH white cake mix, with whole eggs and 1/2 tsp of vanilla added, frosted in my usual dense BC [the recipe that's been on the back of the C&H powdered sugar box since before most of us were born]) was the guinea pig, albeit this time for the border. Mom birthday kitchen cake 2014.jpg by Tracker-Backer, on Flickr Used the pink and green that I'd made for Mothers Day (and froze, tip and all, after decorating those cakes).

ACat I just love the little giraffe it is so cute. What a precious cake.

James my leaves tend to look like that. Bet your Mom loved it.

I made a cake for co-workers wedding showers. They are into comics.

The cake is a layer of chocolate chip cookie, Bluehue's Chocolate Mud cake, another layer of cookie and then cake. Buttercream in between the layers and chocolate buttercream on the outside under the fondant.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's cakes tonight :-D

I'm fairly new still to CC and have learned so much!  I made this cake today and was so pleased with how it turned out.  A friend wanted a zebra cake for her daughter's first birthday, and then got stuck as to the details.  I asked her to email me a picture of her daughter's favourite stuffed animals, thinking I'd get a cute little teddy that I could recreate for the top, and she sent me this:

*

 and this:

*

I was not expecting the top one.  She had made it a few years ago with scraps of cloth and her daughter just loves it.  I was all...wow...okay....and set about the challenge of making Pierre the somewhat creepy thing (she admitted most people think he's creepy!), Binky the white fuzzy thing and zebra stripes look good.  I have to admit I love the way it all turned out!  I fell in love with Pierre as I built him!  Chocolate cake with cookie dough icing and vanilla MMF.  She was so happy with the cake she cried.

* The customer wanted a zebra cake for her daughter's first birthday, and was stuck as to what to do further! I asked her to send me pictures of her daughter's favourite stuffed animals, and have to admit I wasn't quite prepared for what she sent me - a handmade creation named Pierre and a white fuzzy named Binky. It was a fun challenge to put all the concepts together into a cake! She loved it. Chocolate cake with cookie dough buttercream and vanilla marshmallow fondant.

AI second Marian's comments about Cat's giraffe cake. Both it and Marian's Spider-Man/Wonder Woman* cake are way beyond my pay grade. As is the "Pierre and Binky Zebra Cake" from "luvmykids2bits."

-- *Hmm. Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl? Hmm. The Shoveler is already married, and Mr. Furious has a civilian girlfriend, but maybe Jeffrey the Blue Rajah and Carol the Bowler?

ALuvmykids2bits that is so cute with Pierre holding Binky what a great idea and you did such a great job.

Cazza looking forward to the bougainvillea. I am not sure I would have the patients.

Hi everyone!

We made it all the way to Monterey with the cake intact! YEA!

Welcome James. I love your pink and white cake. I have to keep that in mind since it reminds me of those wonderful chenille bedspreads we use to have as kids.

Luvmykids...you did a wonderful job combining two rather creepy critters and making them look totally cute and sweet and adorable!

Cazza..hope to see your flowers soon!

Marian...that's SO funny! My boys are simply in love with that cake! My daughter, however, says that Wonder Woman would never be in that spot! LOL! We are a comic book family so everyone has an opinion! LOL!

See you guys in the morning!

I've done some more work on the flowers but I suspect they will be for show and tell next week as I still have the leaves to go.

AOh. Completely forgot: just in case anybody somehow got the impression that I'd suddenly, in the past three weeks, learned to hand-pipe flowers like an expert, the flowers are, of course, out of the same 2 boxes of Wilton flowers I bought for the Mothers Day cake.

My apologies if anybody got an inflated impression of my chops with a piping bag.

Just back from wiring all the bracts to their flowers on my bougainvillia.  I must be the world worst wirer.  And I never seem to improve.  Ant hints gladly accepted.  Bougainvillia have almost ethereal stems from the bracts to the main branch but mine are all big chunky things.  Hopefully you won't be able to see them too much.

My daughter came along whilst I was wiring and told me I should study instead of wasting my time doing THAT.  When I asked her why I would want to do that she said "because you would be the smartest person in the world"  My reply was "But where would the fun be in that?"  I'm still trying to work out if it was a huge compliment or a back hander about spending too much time cake decorating.  I suspect it was a bit of both.

And James, yo

u are not supposed to give away trade secrets like that.

AWhat trade secrets? Ya can find 'em in any Michaels, and a few well-stocked grocers as well. Besides, I'd rather hand-pipe flowers in BC. The Wilton ones may be beautiful, but if they were any crunchier, you'd break your teeth on 'em.

:-P :-P :-P

It looks like another good week for CCers. It's so much fun to look at all the cakes each week.

Here is a cake I made for daughters' preschool. It was a chocolate cake with buttercream on the inside. I made this cake for all the teachers in the school and then for my girls' main teachers I made Penny's butter cookies with the rosettes. The little tag says, "Thank you for making me one smart cookie".

Have a good weekend. -Tracy

Good morning everyone! I wasn't going to check back in again until tomorrow night but I just couldn't resist seeing all of your work this morning...I look forward to it all week!

Cazza...No, I'm the worst wirer... I will go buy flowers than make those that have to be wired just so I don't have to wire them!

James...yes, you read that right...I will go buy flowers than make those that have to be wired! I have this lovely cake store that sells the unpainted/dusted versions of wired flowers and will use those in a heartbeat if the budget allows. I'll make all the other ones but things like orchids get purchased!

Cara! I love your bag but the perfection of your hat box is blowing me away! Simply gorgeous! I think you have the hang of the transfer...they still intimidate me a bit so I don't use them often but seeing your cakes and cupcakes inspires me to give it another go.

Texas, love your cake and your cookies but I simply adore your party sign! As a party planner I know it's the details that make all the difference and while the cookies would have been a hit anyways, the sign just kicks that wonderful right over the edge! Awesome!

Sweetshop...as always...simply amazed at your work. Tell me that the basketball is foam or something and not cake? Just for my own ego? LOL. And, yes, I bet that back to the future cake was a blast!

I'm trying to come up with an idea for Father's Day this week that I haven't already done. It's really limiting when the Father in question has been given 27 cakes already...I'm out of ideas! I'll figure out something I'm sure. What are you guys going to, or did you guys, do for Father's day?

We are celebrating with our grown kids early...heading out to the beach today to fly kites (gave him his new one last night so he's excited to go fly it!) and picnic and have fun.  Hope you guys have a great weekend!

Cazza and Cat, I think I have you beat on being the worst at wiring flowers!  I don't know what I do wrong, but they always end up starting to unravel at the bottom of the wire.  I just finished doing a cake for my niece's bridal shower that I'll be going to in a few minutes.  I was suprised that the little "spray" I think it's called turned out pretty good.  I still have to figure out how to download pics.  The cake didn't work out like I wanted it to, but I think she'll still be happy with it.  It's in her colors -- white, peach, royal blue.  I'll have to try and get the pic loaded and add here after I get back from the shower.

But all of the cakes you have posted on here are so good!  One of these days I'll be up there with the rest of you in creativity and skill....I hope!!

Cat, the only cake decorating store I know of in Sac (other than Jo Ann's, Michael's or Hobby Lobby) is located on Fair Oaks and their main store is on 66th Avenue.....is that the same one you go to for supplies?

Such beautiful cakes this week everyone! Great job Matty combining the little ones favorite things into the cake!

I have two this week. One for a young man who's going away to the Army on Monday and the other for a repeat customer who is surprising his wif with a birthday cake. The flag cake was inspired by Janet Brown.

WOW WOW WOW , loving all of the cakes this week . I have caking envy as I didn't have one this week. I still have to make my two men to go on a log for our campfire that is part of our big display next weekend.  I also have to finish off the wedding cake I have for the wedding cake table.  I have one done and one to finish . My peonies are wired together I just want to give them a bit of a dust and then calyx them and do some leaves .  I have an idea for another one but not sure I can get it done in the time frame.

I love wiring flowers together , I also love wiring sprays . I spread out a doona on the dining table and just play.

Wow!  You are all so very talented.  Love all the cakes you've posted.  I'm sorta/kinda new to CC, more of a lurker than a poster, but decided "what the heck, I'll post a couple of pics"   lol   The only thing I had this week was a graduation cake, the other one is a cake I broke while wrapping to go in the freezer and since I can't sell a busted up mess, I decided I wanted some cake too.
