AI am new on cake decorating and currently do not have a fairly wide flat surface to work my fondant for my cakes. I currently rent a house with a tiled island which is not ideal as a work surface because of the ridges. I was wondering if any of you have ideas on what to use as an alternative to roll my fondant on. I have seen pictures of some bakers using a slab of a granite-like material that is placed on top of their islands to work on their cakes but I am not sure what it is. If anyone have any ideas, let me know where I can get them. Thank you in advance.

AI hope I understood your question, and my response will be of some help. I live in a apartment and I use my kitchen table which is wood. I clean it well and then sprinkle a little confectioners sugar on it. I would like to invest in a decent size silicone mat. Some people use those to work the fondant, roll it out, and use the mat to lay the fondant on the cake.
