I never really thought about it, but a customer recently asked me if I provide utensils. Straight off the back I wasn't thinking plates and forks (I see this more for savory food operations? ...pizza joints, family/catering restaurants) but it got me to think...should I be providing one of those plastic/disposable knives? Growing up, every cake my family would buy from a bakery would supply it. Do any of you home bakers provide it? If so, where would you suggest buying it in bulk? I've tried searching but the most I could find were regular plastic knives you can get at any supermarket or plastic serrated bread knives. 

If you are a caterer you probably would but if you are baking a cake for a function why would you?

I'd hate to see a plastic knife attack a lovely custom cake.

The Best Man at my daughters upcoming wedding has provided a ceremonial sword to cut their cake which they can then keep, other than that the venue provides it.

Maybe I should have specified that I wasn't specifically targeting wedding cakes. The majority of cakes that I sell are for birthdays versus weddings so I wasn't quite sure if most customers buy a "special" knife to cut the cake. And yes, I am aware that most couples typically purchase something to cut into their wedding cake with. 

I WAS a caterer and I did not provide (as in "gift") a knife to cut the wedding or any other kind of cake.  If I stayed at the wedding (if we were doing food and cake), I brought my own utensils to cut the cake for the guests and the couple was welcome to use my knife if they wanted.

You must have had some special bakeries that provided a knife with every cake because I never ever saw that growing up.

But as mentioned above ..... you are not a pizza joint.  They are buying a cake, they know the need plates, forks and a knife to cut it with.  Unlike most in this 24/7 world, they can figure out how to plan ahead.
