AJust how far in advance can I make a gumpaste decoration? Stored out of light and dust. Would be decoration only and not attached to the cake.

I want to make a Cinderella pumpkin coach which is purely topper only. The birthday isn't for six months....but right now I have the time and the gear.

Just how far is too far!

AYou're probably fine making it now. I had some flowers that I stored for a couple of years.

AJust store it in a cardboard box, as it may sweat in a plastic container.

I agree with Leah and Nadiaa.  The only other thing about gum paste is it will become more brittle with time but you should be fine 6 months out.

AAnd the colours might get a little faded, esp with pink and purple..so make sure they are kept in a dark place away from sunlight :)

AGreat, thank you!

Can the colours fade naturally? Stored out of light of course but will the colours keep? I'd hate to make it and find it looks pale at the time.

AFrom experience, they do get a little faded over time. You can dust them with petal dust and steam to set the color. Just hold the flowers dusted with the petal dust over boiling water for a few seconds. It will make your flowers look more vibrant :)
