I'm making a cake for my father's 70th birthday this weekend.  He likes the "whippped-cream like" icing from our local grocery store.  I purchased some Bettercreme from GFS.  I would appreciate any advice or tips from people who have used before.  Is it similar to buttercream as far as decorations?  Can it be colored?  Should I add almond or vanilla flavoring to it?  I hate using something new since I want this to be a great cake for him.  Asking help from the pros on here seemed like a good place to start.  Thanks!

Taste the product to see if it needs more flavor. And try mixing in some color with a very small amount of icing. (Sorry, I've never used this product before but now your post is at the top again.)

And Happy Birthday to your dad!

Athere was a thread from Melvira awhile back with so many alterations using Bettercreme, Ya'll help me here if I misquote but I have used it and love it. Take a counter softened package ( 8-oz) cream cheese and beat with mixer...if using vanilla bettercreme add to cream cheese one small box INSTANT vanilla pudding mix with about 1/2 cup milk and mix all together...then beat your Bettercreme maybe less than 10 mins until thick..if too thick add a bit more bettercreme..then add pudding mixture. So delicious...it holds flavor so well so you can add Torani syrups, liquor, any flavorings, fruits...the Chocolate Bettercream is to die for but I cannot find it at GFS here in Cleveland OH! That is great with malt flavoring on a chocolate cake/cupcake. Mel just added the cream cheese/pudding to make it richer in taste but it is not necessary. You can just use the Bettercreme. It does hold color but more of the pastels only. Have fun and see if you can find her post. It was under cupcakes or search by her name.

Can you find  Whip` n Ice? It`s same as Bettercreme but doesn`t have that strong  vanilla flavor. Google Instantwhip company they sell it. I am decorating  my cakes with whip n ice, people/family like it, but I do let them know that is non dairy whip topping.

I decorate with something similar, but different name. Try not to overwhip it, if you do overwhip it will be difficult to decorate with it, and if you do overwhip it just add some liquid Bettercreme and whip for a couple of seconds again. I suggest to spend time on reading  the whole tread on Bettercreme, it has very helpful information. I just add 1/2 can sweetened condenced milk to mine.
