I had a pest control guy go check out the spot I'm fixing to lease for my cakery and not only did he see mice droppings. He saw rat droppings. He can't tell if they're old or new but there isn't proper sealing around the back entry door and the guy who had the spot previously ripped out his ceiling ventilation which left a gaping hole saying come on in!

I already paid a holding fee equivalent to one months rent...wondering do I cut my losses. The pest control think he can secure the place but I wonder if he just want a contract. The thought of anything running around while I'm decorating is ugh!!!!

This sounds like a pretty simple problem to fix - I'd see if the landlord will pay for it since it's a structural issue allowing entrance of vermin.

you will probably need pest control anyhow or do it yourself

Welcome to the world of pest control. My initiation happened when the creek overflowed and 17 mice discovered my kitchen. All food businesses deal with these kinds of problems. Even without the present issue, you would need a good exterminator.

Seal the gaps up and get the place exterminated.  What Mimi said is true, as pests are everywhere, so it's about keeping them away.

Thank you! I will discuss with the landlord my concerns over the structure and go from there.

AI think I recall reading somewhere online to stuff any gaps holes will steel wool. Like behind the stov. They can't digest it
