Has anyone tried making decorations using the advanced chocolate method in "The Whimsical Bakehouse?"

My daughter's Christening is this Sunday and I am expecting about 75 people for an open house. I want something a little different for her cake. I was thinking of doing a 3 tiered (10 inch, 8 inch and 6 inch) round cakes with white buttercream ( I love the house buttercream recipe from this book) decorated with butterlies (from page 153). Essentially this seems like doing a color flow design but with chocolate.

This will be the first time most of the guests will have seen any of my cake decorating work, so I want to impress everyone!
Any thoughts or other suggestions, especially in cas this doesn't work out!

It's not as easy as they make it look.
We found that the House buttercream is just as bad as any other shortening buttercream, even if you use hi ratio. (They do say in the book hi ratio will only effect color, not taste. This is very true.) I also found it trickier to work with.

So if I were you I'd make the chocolate today. It will last a long time, so you'll be fine. This way you can have a backup plan if your hands are too shakey and you can't do it. icon_wink.gif

Don't know if this is what you are looking for but I made White Chocolate Filligree Butterflies for the My Pretty Pony Cake. They are shown close up in the picture. It is in my photos, or under Children Birthday Cakes in the gallery. I used a Chocolate dispensing bottle with a fine tip and traced over some coloring book patterns that I had googled.

Hope this helps

I did some of the chocolate babies and bottles from the book for a baby shower cake in March and had no problems. I just recently did a fairy and dragonflies also. I used tips 3,4,and 5, it's all in how thick you want your outlines.Besides any ones you don't like ya can just eat..LOL
