Ok ladies and gents... baker buddies... 

 

I just got a request for this cake, and need to know what the top shavings are? chocolate? not sure... see picture below. It's just going to be a white cake, white icing simple. But as close to this picture as possible (but level and straight!). If you need to zoom in on the cake it might be best to follow the link to targets website and use their zoom feature. 

 

Any tips, suggestions and or analysis on this cake is welcome too! Then I'll be able to make corrections to my own!

The only reason I don't think it's chocolate shavings is that it's just too white.  But this is an image taken for Target, so it may have been altered.  Maybe it could be coconut shavings?

these are large flakes... sheet like. Can you get coconut that way? or do you bake out sheets of coconut juice/paste into a cracker like topping?

 

or maybe its a white sugar sheet shredded up?

yes, you can get coconut in a real big shag bark cut like that
