How Early Can I Make 3D Fondant Figures?

I'm a newbie at fondant figures! I am making a graduation cake that will need to travel 8+ hours in a car with me - how far in advance can I make 3D fondant figures? Do I need to have them in a cooler? These figures probably won't be eaten!
Thank you!
AI make mine weeks in advance and they're fine. Don't put them in a fridge/ cooler, they'll get sticky. I just keep mine in a cardboard box to keep the dust off them. I'm just a hobby baker, the pro's might have better advice but it works for me. :-)
thanks Nikki54321! Appreciate the response! Since I have your attention....can I pick your brain as well as maisie73?
I was going to use the Wilton shape n amaze decorating dough - for my first time making 3d figures. Have either of you used this? Suggestions?
Thank you!
I agree with Maisie - I don't keep fondant models in the fridge. I am going to start making some models now for a cake which I need for 5th July. I am also going to use modelling chocolate for some models. I recently went to an exhibition and was able to see how firm it was. Forgive me if I sound naive but I have never used modelling chocolate before and I was really impressed. I don't think we have the Wilton product you mention here in the UK.
