AHi guys. I'm looking for a lemon cake recipe strong enough for fondant. My experience of lemon cakes is very limited but what I have made have been way too light. It's for a bottom tier and I'm worried about it not being able to hold the weight. Any filling ideas would be great too. Thankyou x

I've used this lemon and cream cheese pound cake under fondant before, it held up fine.  Keep in mind it's a pound cake, so it's quite dense and does not rise very much (you'll probably have to use extra batter to fill your pans, as it mentions in the recipe).  It's quite tasty!

I've filled it with raspberry jam, lemon curd and swiss meringue buttercream (vanilla, or flavoured with raspberry puree)

Will you be using a support structure in your bottom tier? A "light" cake can be made for covering with fondant, but no matter how dense a cake is, you will always need a support system if you stack cake on top one another.
