I would like information on using poured fondant for a cake.  I am making a 8" layer cake and would like to know if I could use poured fondant on this size of cake.  I have seen information in regards to petit fours, cupcakes and cake pops but not much about an actual cake.  Thanks in advance.

I did it once - ONCE - because a customer insisted that a bakery from his childhood always made them that way.  If you think pouring fondant on petit fours is a PITA, wait till you do it on a whole cake.  You'll likely need to pour twice.  Charge a LOT.

I'm new to this page what is PITA (pain in the rear?-just thought of that as I was typing the question)

I am just making a Frozen cake for fun and wondered how it would look.  I have used fondant in the past but not enough to be an expert with it.  I'm a huge fan of the Rosette cakes right now, not only are they beautiful but so easy!

I am pulling out the stops so to speak with this little project.  Introducing myself to Royal Icing.  Might try the candy glass too.

I've never done Petit Fours.

I don't have a bakery or bake cakes to sell.  I just enjoy doing it so I bake them for friends and family etc.

This is heavenly desert. Personally, I think they are good just using little square cakes, not the layered ones. It's a huge pita, especially if it's important that they look perfect. If taste is more of the concern, your friends will love you for it. Hardly anyone makes them any more. I like them with almond flavoring, but there are so many options. Please send me a box of them when you're done! lol

I'm not making Petit Fours.  I was asking about using the poured fondant on a full sized cake.

As it is a type of glaze rather than a frosting, Poured Fondant is rarely used as a large cake covering.

As with Petit Fours and other smaller bakery items, you will have to do multiple coats to get the coverage on a larger cake . It is also liable to crack when it is moved around.

That's what I was thinking!  Thanks for the post.
