Gum Paste Or Flower Paste For Modelleing Heads/faces??

I have never worked with gum paste and have no idea what the consistency is like or how it moulds. I normally make my heads for characters out of flower paste but wondered if gum paste was any easier to sculpt?
AIf what you have been doing is working I would stick with it. Gumpaste can dry out fast and start cracking if you keep messing with it.
Hi Louise. I can really recommend Satin Ice Gumpaste and I buy it online from The Craft Company. It might seem expensive because you buy quite a large amount but it keeps for ages in its little bucket and definitely works out no more expensive than Squires flower paste. I just love the stuff (I even like eating it - it reminds me of the sweetie cigarettes we used to buy as kids many years ago) and I use it for a lot of my modelling, eg the princess, the girl on the beach, the elephants and the little brown mouse with the Gruffalo. Of course, its great for flowers too. Give it a try!
Brill thanks, I might try it, wanted something with a little more waxy feeling about it. Think it would sculpt easier.
You can also use fondant with a little tylose in it. You will have a longer working time than gum paste.
