AThis may have been answered before but I couldn't find it so I apologize in advance if it has been. I have someone that wants an 8 inch round 3 layer cake for 25 ppl. I was gong to bake 2 inch layers, torte them and put a cake board in the middle of the 6 torted layers so it's easier for her to cut. Does this sound feasible? If so, would I need to put dowels in the bottom layers and would I need to cover the cake board with anything to seal the cardboard edges before I ice the cake in buttercream? TIA!

AYes that would be better and easier to serve. You might want to put dowels for ever my 4 inches of cake...that's the traditional way.

Yes, in your case, a board in the middle of a 6" high cake (at 3") and dowels in the lower layers (3" also).

AThanks so much!! Would I need to cover the cake board with something to seal those cardboard edges or is it okay to ice over it bare? I wasn't sure since the board would be in the middle of the cake.
