AHi everyone im new to cc so i havnt got a clue how i do things on here, anyways i have a quick question... I made a cake with 2 1/2 all purpose flour 3/4 cup of vegetable oil 1 cup of milk 4 eggs 2 cups of granulated sugar 1 teaspoon of vanilla 1/2 teaspoon of salt 2 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
I love the idea of using oil instead of butter and it tastes fab, im making a fire engine cake, if i use this mix and crumb coat etc using smbc let it firm overnight in the fridge, is this cake ok to cover in fondant? Im scared incase my cake collapses Kind regards Katy
Yep! With 4 eggs, it's probably going to be a dense cake. The only way it would collapse is if you're rolling your fondant out an inch thick! lol
AThanks kelly thats great, am i able to put it into a 3/4 inch deep pan ? And do you have any idea how i would scale this recipe up or down for different size tins
I suppose you can if you don't fill the pan very much, but most standard cake pans are at least 2 inches high. When I need to fill a small or larger pan then I'll either half or double the recipe according to what I need. Most recipes will fill two 8 or 9 inch cake pans as is, so if I need it for a 10 inch pan, I'll make 1 1/2 of the recipe, or for a 6 inch pan, I'll just make half the recipe. I hope this helps!
