Hi,
So I've been getting some very important answers to cake questions for the past year without even having to post. However, I cannot find a thread for this so I joined up to ask. :) I want to use a chocolate chip buttercream under my fondant. My question is, will the chips in the BC make the fondant bumpy, or will the fondant be fine as long as my BC is as smooth as possible. Any help before I spend time and money would be greatly appreciated.
AI would say that the fondant will be add smooth as your buttercream. Just get it smooth and then get that really cold so it hardens then put your fondant on.you shouldn't have a problem.
Hmmm, I can't imagine that working if you want to cover with fondant. Unless you put the chips in a food processor so they'll be really really small, but even then I don't know. What if you just did the filling with the chocolate chips in it? I'm just thinking that the chocolate chips will pull once you try to smooth the sides with a bench scraper or cake spatula.
I would just set aside a small amount of buttercream before you add the chocolate chips, once you have iced the cake with your chocolate chip buttercream go over that one with your reserved chocolate chip free buttercream and you will have a smooth buttercream layer to apply the fondant to.
Kelly- That's what I was thinking as well.
bubs-That actually sounds like a great idea. I will give it a try.
Thank you to everyone who responded! I really appreciate it.
