I want to make a big gumpaste sunflower but I'm not sure about how to achieve it. I've found the one I attached made from the fabulous Floralile that is perfect and I would like to take this one as my goal (yes, I know, I can keep dreamming). All the tutorials I find in internet glue the petals directly to the center and I don't like the final effect. The sunflower of the photo seems to have the petals attached with thin wires but my doubt is if the wires go inside of the center or not because it seems so. Does anyone know how to achieve this? I have made a similar sunflower.  The petals are all wired and inserted into a base.  The base is made on a wire and allowed to dry for a few hours only.  The base should not be completely dried or the wires will not insert. 

The way thatI made this flower was I made all of the sunflower petals and then dried and colored them before I made the base.  To make the base use a very heavy gauge wire and make a flat circle so that the base is well supported.  Shape the base and allow it to dry for a few hours then insert the petals into the base.

Thank you very much for your help. So the wired petals go inside the center but the wires don't join the big one that supports the base like for making roses for example?

No, the wires on the petals are short so that they can be inserted directly into the gumpaste.  It is important to make sure that the base is of sufficient depth to support all of the petals.

when I make the center for the sunflower, I make the brown center good size. I then tape about 5 24 g wire together really tight, about 1 1/2 " down. After I tape them, I prong them outwards. turn base over. put glue on wires, and press into the center. I use Dresden tool to help press these wires and also to make sure they stay until dried. hth yes, then make the petals(little ahead of time) and then press into center(after setting up for a little while) then I place the flower in a cup with foil over it with little hole to hold the flower to dry.
