ANothing is fool proof, not even spellcheck! Although you may end up liking it, (I do) I would never tell someone it's perfect for them. No recipe is perfect for every baker & recipient. Personal tastes differ too much. Have you ever bought a cookbook and ever truly regretted it? If you do get it, I'm sure you'll find something useful in it. Will it rock your world? Maybe. Do a search here and her blog and you'll find plenty of reviews and points of view.

So does the version for sale scale out the recipe for different cake pan sizes?  I didn't see that noted on the etsy page.  Thanks!

Yes, recipe scaled from 4" to 12" pan sizes, plus half-sheet. Totally awesome recipe and directions. It's like Jen is standing there talking with you.

This is going to be my birthday present :) Very excited about getting this too.

I wonder how much it would cost to have Jennifer come to my kitchen and stand there talking me though it?  I'm probably going to just ask for the recipe guide this year haha

AI just wanted to add my 2 cents- I bought Jennifer's recipe "book" and have made about 8 batches of cake so far and am planning more for Easter. Every one of the cakes has been perfection!! I am a huge fan and her directions are very clear and thorough. I'm sure, as a previous poster mentioned, it may not be the perfect recipe for some. However, I would be willing to bet that the large percentage of bakers out there would be nothing but thrilled with their purchase!! I know I am :D

One note though- if you do buy it and want to start baking ASAP, make sure you have a kitchen scale handy, as many of the ingredient measurements are given in weight (not cups) which I have found makes for a much more consistent result!

Everyone's talk on here made me also buy her recipe booklet. I can't wait to try them. I've read through it about three times and she's so detailed. When I have some free time, it's on my to-do list, for sure!

I finally made the recipe! It's in the oven now, and the batter was so yummy! I just can't wait to taste the finished product. My kitchen is starting to smell incredible.

AAren't all of the recipes in weight? I find that is such a pain!

Totally worth it.  I had the recipe written down for easier access long long ago but bought it from her etsy store anyways because I found it (and her!) to be so useful.

And yes, the recipes are in weight but that's a GOOD thing!  Makes it much easier to scale a recipe up or down and also much easier to measure by weight than volume.  I converted my volume recipes to weight long ago.  Once you start baking by weight, you wont go back!

AI'll have to try baking by weight.,also, I just wanted one recipe, not all of them and didn't want to purchase them all, so I am sticking with my WASC from here and my double chocolate fudge cake. The WASC has conversions to yellow, and it's really excellent. Is fromscratch's better? Has anyone compared?

The ones I spell out on this thread - these are my go to white and yellow.

I honestly thought weighing would be a pain too but it really wasn't. I have not yet iced the cakes (I made cupcakes) but I did eat some before I popped them in to the freezer and it was amazing! I am going to ice them today. I can't wait to try some of the variations!

AHi Nancy, we always measure by weight in the UK, you get much more consistant results. Try measuring 1 gram of sugar or flour etc, see how tiny it is compared to a cup. Much less room for error. And, as Jennicake said it's much easier to scale a recipe up or down. :-)

My feelings exactly!  I've been using her recipe since before she put it up for sale.  Loved the recipe from the very beginning!  I bought it just because I wanted to support a small business and wanted the updates she added to it.  I use this recipe as my go-to all the time.  Love it!

AWould anyone be willing to share with me the different variations she includes? (not the recipe, just the different flavors) I have emailed her thru Etsy and have not received a response.

I already saw the ones listed on Etsy, I was hoping to see a complete list of variations. Thanks for the suggestion!

I downloaded the PDF. The variations are:

Bridal white, french vanilla, almond, cinnamon swirl, chocolate, strawberry, raspberry swirl, lemon, coconut, banana, peanut butter, choc chip, pumpkin, shortbread, pudding mixes, non-dairy, orange, (pink) champagne, minosa, cookies and cream, marble, gingerbread, chocolate hazelnut, pineapple upside-down.

There is just a little paragraph on each of these variations listed.

Hope that helps!
