AHi I am new on this site and don't know how to post my question on forum. My question is that what type of colourful shinny and glossy icing( not fondant) is used for many cakes like superman cake or any other character cakes It's texture is smooth and liquidy like royal icing but I am sure it's not royal icing please help
ADo you have a picture? If its shiny...it might very well be fondant.. they just hit it with a steamer to make it shiny
AHi I am trying to attach the picture but unable to do it. It was supper man cake with supper man logo outer area was butter icing though but the superman logo was thin icing something like thin royal icing any idea
That emblem looks like Color-Flow to me. I'm not a pro, and it's been 25 years since I used it, so I wouldn't be able to offer any instructions. I do remember it being fairly easy and really nice looking.
ACan you please explain what exactly color flow is and how can you create this any recipes? Thanks
AThe icing wasn't hard, but if its a color flow which I think is like royal icing then it should be hard but it wasn't may be it takes more than 3 hours to set the icing what are your suggestions?
AYeah I'm going to say color flow...and for a piece that size its going to take way more than 4 hours to set...possibly up to 2 days..
I haven't really worked with color flow so I can't offer you any tips on how to make it or how it works. Google about it and I'm sure something will come up!
Color-Flow Icing. Look up the following: www.wilton.com/idea/Color-Flow
Also check on You-Tube for color-flow videos.
Any Wilton Yearbook should have the recipe as well as basic techniques for Color-Flow.
(Available at Wal-Mart, Target, Michaels, Jo-Ann Fabrics . . . )
I've seen all of these icings used in this manner.
- melted AMBC
- corn syrup glace
- melted, colored marshmallow creme
- color flow
American buttercream maybe...powdered sugar, fat of your choice, flavorings, liquid to thin.
AHi I have a question can I put cmc or tylose in fondant for covering cake to prevent from condensation. I know cmc and tylose is used for making flowers but recently I made a fondant cake that became sticky as soon as I put fondant on it. My cake was iced with flour based chocolate icing. I saw a cake from a bakery that's fondant was hard like they have put cmc or tylose or mixture ofgumpaste in it to prevent from wetting. Can I use little cmc in my fondant to cover my cake from condensation any suggestions will be appreciated
