I need to make an acoustic guitar for my friends birthday this weekend.

I have a template, design and some ideas in mind.

Does anyone have suggestions for the best kind of cake to make for carving the shape and supporting fondant icing?

Also any decorating tips would be appreciated if anyone has made a cake like this before. What kind of decorations/icings/lollies etc did you use?

If you go to jessicakes blog she has a guitar cake..that looks, well very realistic!  I think she used mud cake.
