Hey ladies! I am going to attempt to make this cake. I was looking at the close-up of the Hogwarts crest and I found these pins that I *may* be able to use to make a mold. Do you think that this would work? I included a close up of the crest on one of the cakes- it's so detailed! How do you think it was done? I also included a picture of the pin I was thinking about using. Would it work with fondant instead of chocolate? Also, I've never used a chocolate or brown fondant to cover a cake, any advice on what brand to use? Thanks for any and all advice you ladies would give me!

Nice cake ideas.  Brown/chocolate fondant works just like regular fondant, but another possibility is covering it in ganache--really tasty!  It needs to be kept cold, as it's basically the same thing as a truffle.  You can pour it on for a shiny finish, or whip it up and spread it on like frosting.

As for the crest, it's possible that out there somewhere is a mold for fondant/chocolate that can be bought and used.  It's also possible the person who made that cake actually sculpted their own.

--just looked it up and one was: "(It’s modeling chocolate in a mold made from a fridge magnet.)"  they most likely used silicone molding material and molded the magnet, then put chocolate in the mold (or gum paste) and painted it with luster dust paint.

You could also take an image of the crest and have it printed on edible wafer paper, then cut out a flat fondant shape, same as the image, and attach it with a little gum glue.

Thank you so much Rowantree!

About the chocolate fondant- for some reason I thought maybe it wouldn't dry completely hard like regular fondant does. I think I made that up in my mind maybe! :D

I will look into the silicon mold option and then definitely print out the crest if the mold isn't an option! I hope it is though!

I gave her four options of HP book cakes and she gave me free reign. This is definitely the most challenging one, so I made sure she (my sister) was okay with all four of the variations of cake I showed her!
