Well as luck would have it two weeks before our bubs Birthday party (16th Feb) our computed crashed and had to go back for repairs so unfortunately (and very scarily) I was on my own to get the cake done. Although I has a few technical glitches along the way I managed to put all the information, tips, tricks and knowledge that I have picked up from this site over the last ten months or so and make a cake that I could be half proud of. Thankyou to all the people who share their advice on here, no doubt without my cake probably would have been a total and complete failure.
Sorry everyone I can't figure out how to copy and paste the photo's so if you would like to see the cake you will need to open the links, apologies again.
Excellent castle! I am attempting a castle for the first time too in April. You were very brave to put the castle on pedestals (not sure if I've got the right word) rather than direct onto a cake board!
Wow! I love your post AND I love your castle cake! You're right, this is a great site with so much info. Awesome of you to come back and show the wonderful results that came from all you learned here :)
You're little lady is very lucky and I'm guessing more fabulous cakes are probably in her future. My kiddos are 4 and 6 years old. When they get a little older, the stunned looks on their faces when they first see their cakes are the BEST- it's why I kept decorating And I agree with Cakejeanie- your cake design was brave!!!! LOL But you definitely pulled it off!! Also love the cobblestone texture and little mushrooms. Cute details. Just wanted to say great job and happy belated birthday to your bubs!!!!
Thankyou :-) My husband and I nearly came to blows over the 'pedestals', I came up with a plan of how I was going to construct it but was pretty sure that the plastic stands I had were not going to be strong enough, hubby (who is a welder with an engineer type back ground) convinced me it would be fine..... until I insisted he feel just how heavy the cake was after construction lol..... the look on his face said it all, so he quickly cut me a piece of stainless steel to the correct height which I painted with warm glucose syrup then rolled in some purple sugar that I had made. So all of the weight was taken by the stainless and the cake was just being balanced by the plastic stands. We stacked it the night before and I was very relieved to find it still standing the next day :-)
