What Size Cake Seperator To I Need To Use?

AThe first wedding cake order I have taken and the bride wants a 12inch fruit cake with a second tier which will be an 8inch sponge. The two tiers are separated with a butterfly acylic separator which comes in a 4inch or 7inch. Which size should I buy. They are not cheap so I don't want to make a mistake and buy the wrong one!
