I was shopping today and along with the new Duncan Hines Pink Velvet box mix they had a Blue Velvet mix.  Anyone have any idea what blue velvet could be?  I know pink velvet has white chocolate in it, just wondering if blue velvet is the same.

I bought the pink velvet yesterday on a whim.  Baked it today.  It's more coral than pink.  Takes one stick of butter and the yellow of the butter turns the batter to coral.  Its just white cake with coloring so I can only imagine that the blue is also white cake with blue coloring.

I bought the pink velvet too but didn't make it yet.  I thought it might taste like the pink velvet recipe that is on here. Did it taste just like white cake?

Tastes exactly like white cake - only it's tinted pink.  Actually says on the package that it's a vanilla cake.  

I bought it for two reasons.  1.) I was curious to see if it had a denser texture - it doesn't and 2.) because I was being lazy.  Needed a pink cake for a taste test (strawberry cake without the strawberry batter - just in the filling).  But was thrown for a loop when the butter hit the batter - turning it more of a coral than the bright pink on the boxes photo.  I really don't understand red velvet either BUT I just found a recipe that might jingle my bells.  It has the buttermilk in it but also a cup of brown sugar!!!!!!!!!  That might be the kick it was looking for.  I have (in the past) put just a hint of almond flavoring in the batter and that went over well but I can't wait to try this new one.  Will let  you know how it turns out.  I just made a vegan chocolate cake for a vegan bride and the darn thing is to die for.  Who knew!

Red velvet cake is a buttermilk cake with a little cocoa in it, but it shouldn't taste like chocolate. To put food color into a vanilla cake mix and call it "velvet" anything seems a little shady to me. You can make whatever color velvet cake you want just by adding different food coloring to a red velvet cake recipe. Dunno what blue velvet cake is, but I have a pretty good guess about the aftereffects, when it comes out the other end of you.
