AI am making a guitar cake in a few weeks and need some suggestions. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make the neck of the guitar stand off of the board like a real guitar, rather than sitting flat. sure--i would use a piece of foam core and mount it securely from the head to the soundboard

depending on how heavy it seemed when i got to that point if i needed it i'd have a yardstick ready to use as well to reinforce--

AOkay. So would you just cover the foam in fondant and have the whole neck inedible? Also how would you go about connecting it to the base of the guitar? Sorry if these questions sound dumb. I'm still relatively new to carved cakes.

i would build a bridge that would touch the cake board on both ends and be concealed within the cake at the head of the neck and in the body of the guitar--yes i'd use fondant or modeling chocolate --maybe even both--modeling choco on bottom of the neck and fondant on top--or a combination--something like that--

foam core board  not foam yes?

I made this cake a couple of years ago.  i got my husband to make the arm out of timber, sort of like a bridge, so that it is raised from the board.  i just covered it in fondant.  one end of the bridge went into the cake about 2 inches in, the other end butted up against the handle which was cake.  does that make sense?  you can't really see in the picture, but the arm is about 1.5 inches from the board.

AI did an electric guitar a while ago and used rct for the neck. I compressed them well, then added a few long skewers to make it extra sturdy. I coated that with melted chocolate and then fondant after it dried. Where the neck met the cake, I carved out a spot for the neck to fit into so that it'd be flush with the rest of the guitar. I made a little prop from a cut plastic cup to go under the neck just to make sure it would stay in place. The bonus with this method is that rct covered in dark chocolate is delicious :)
