Hello,
I am just a hobby baker and have been lurking on this site for a while now. Really wanted to express my appreciation for voluminous advice I found here. I will never be as good as many professionals, who extend their expertise and help us out, but I have learnt a lot.
On Friday i bit a little bit more than I could chew and was decorating 2 cakes that were to be picked up by my friends on Saturday (I work full time by the way, so started decorating at 8 pm). One was a round cake covered in fondant and decorated with ruffles (or was to be). I was so proud of myself for having straight and sharp edges, then covered it in fondant and .... bubbles!! I was devastated!! Have made about 30 cakes by now and never have had any bubbles. I attributed it to the heat that has hit us in Melbourne. Barely overcame the bubbles disaster, prepared one strip for a ruffle and it would not stay. After torturing my cake for a good hour I gave up and changed the design. Luckily my friend did not care what the design was and was happy with whatever I made.
Having finished the cake I jumped on CC and researched both topics, ruffles and bubbles. So much information!!! I have learnt my lesson and next time, if I think of using a particular technique I will do a bit of research here first. This way I might avoid tears at 1 am!
Again, thank you to all professionals who guide us. :)
I second that! I have no intention of going past this being a hobby but you professionals have been a great help to this gal who just likes to have a creative outlet.
