AI'm planning a vege garden cake. I want to make some small tomato plants but am struggling on the best method.

I'd like them to be free standing in the garden if that makes sense?

Does anyone have any suggestions or is this possible? I have two months so time is not an issue. I've not attempted fine flowers or the sort so was hoping there may be a simple suggestion for a novice.

Thanks

AI am assuming this is not a cake but a decorative item that is on the cake board. I am planning a similar project for the NEC Birmingham in November. What I am planning to do for my free standing plants is drill holes in a thin board and pass the wires through the board and secure them with contact adhesive. Then attach the thin board to a drum board trapping the wires between the two. Another idea is to do raised beds securing the wires in a flower pick filled with RI .

We grow our real tomatoes with stakes to support them so you could anchor some dowels in to your cake and then cover the protruding end with fondant to simulate stakes and then attach your tomatoes to these.  We use both straight and t.pee style supports.

AWell the tomato idea went in the bin....three times lol.

This is how it turned out. Not the most original idea of course but tried to put my own twist on it.

What a great job! I love the gate. Nobody would ever miss the tomatoes.
