AI have to make this cake and I was wondering, what kind of pans would you guys use? And how many layers of cake would you use? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It's hard to tell how big the cake really is from the photo.  I have made this type of cake and use the ball pan but that only served about 6.

I'm curious.  I really don't mean this to sound snarky.  Is this for a friend or for an order from a client?

I made one a while back and I believe I used the soccer ball pan for the dome and I might have used a 6inch pan, but I can't remember, I also used a tutorial that no longer exists but found this one.

I made a hat this past May for my son, and put it on top of a "baseball field". I used the 3D Wilton ball pan.  They might have also used part of another cake underneath that, or made both halves and cut the top off the 2nd half for the height.  You can see my cake in my pictures.  I made the cake, covered it in BC then the fondant.  Once that was on, I put the lines down the side of the hat and I cut the symbol (mine was a Phillies hat) out of white fondant/gum paste.  I had my lines on the hat all crooked, but it was for my 11 year old and my first time making it, so he didn't notice or care.  Good luck!
