Has anyone ever used honey to flavor buttercream frosting?
I use Cali4dawn's buttercream recipes and have experimented with different flavorings. This weekend I'm making a honey-pot shaped cake for a Pooh birthday (my first time trying a carved/3-D cake!) and I was thinking about honey flavored frosting. The mom is trying to incorporate honey into other areas of the b-day celebration and I thought the icing would be a natural.
Does anyone know is using honey instead of a flavor extract would affect the consistency of the frosting?

Any other ideas of what I could use for this flavor if actual honey wouldn't work?

I have never tried this so it would be a GUESS. I would think to add enough to get the honey flavor, it would probably change the consistency. What about making a simple syrup with the honey like you would with sugar? and brushing onto the cake for flavor?

Since I am a beekeeper I have tons of honey recipes. Here is one, but I have never tried it and don't know how it would be to decorate on:

1/2 C. honey
2 Tbsp. orange juice (fresh)
2 egg whites
2 Tsp. finely grated orange rind

Beat constantly with rotary egg beater or electric mixer and cook until frosting stands in peaks. Remove from heat and beat until thick enough to spread.

I also have a few more - let me know if you want them:

Honey-peanut butter icing
honey cream cheese icing
honey cream chees frosting

If you'd like to make cookies or some other dessert, I have other recipes. Let me know.
